When the kids are at the borders, bring out the wine

My husband is travelling this week.  When he called home to talk with the kids, he was quite surprised when I told him that there were only three home to speak with.  I explained that for the first time and quite by coincidence, three of our children had their tiyul shnati, that blockbuster class trip of the year, all scheduled for today.  And tonight…..and tomorrow.

Where did they all go, he asked.  Well, 14 year old Molly is in Eilat, nestled snuggly between the Jordanian and Egyptian borders, 16 year old Yoni is up north travelling somewhere just south of Lebanon to somewhere just west of Syria, while 11 year old Simmy is staying near the Dead Sea with a lovely view of the hills of Jordan from Masada which they visited today.

My husband was silent for a few seconds.  Then very slowly he reasoned, “Well, I guess if we go to war in the next 24 hours we probably won’t have to worry about all three…..”  Little does he know that while he is away, I am hourly checking for army updates on any changes at the borders of our four neighboring countries.

I guess there is nothing else to do.  I think I’ll order up sushi for dinner and enjoy the quiet.  After all, the real action will come when all six kids are back home - together.  Now, where is that wine?
