Work is a four letter word. Perhaps that is why I prefer to stay in my hammock all day sipping cocktails.
Okay, back to reality. Thanks for indulging me, folks. You see, I'm tired. I have been cleaning, cooking, cleaning, shopping, and cleaning some more. And half of all that happened on shabbos, the day of rest.
This week was my hubby's birthday and preparations were in full swing. Family photos were being taken and transposed onto a clock and a mug. A nifty travel neck pillow, complete with massage capability and an mp3 hookup was colorfully wrapped. Helium balloons, cakes and champagne came into the picture. The birthday boy's favorite foods were being cooked up, the house was being cleaned up, and chaos reigned supreme in the Gantshar household. Two hours before sundown, I went for a run. By the time evening came, bringing with it the shabbos queen, I was showered and ready for the guests that would be joining us for dinner.
A wonderful evening it was, but alas, when the party's over, the dirty dishes must be addressed. Furry masses from three shedding dogs, blowing across the floor like tumbleweeds, must be swept up and disposed of. As my mother always said, you play, you pay. After a few glasses of champagne, who really feels like entering a messy kitchen? Isn't that a bit like taking a refreshing shower only to have to walk outside into 90 degree temperatures to dig up the ground for your new pool? I don't have room for a pool in my garden, but at least I should be able to enjoy a glass of champagne now and then. Or two or three.
As soon as shabbos was over, I went for the kitchen with a gusto that only came after a nice shabbos nap. The 623 dishes are now clean and counter space is once again visible. But I worry. However will I keep up this pace with the new job I have recently taken on? With the eight loads of laundry awaiting in various rooms around the house? My exercise routine that has hardly been the caliber necessary for the run I planned on doing in a month will remain on the back burner. I look forward to hitting the pavement during the coming week. Will I do it? Stay tuned........
