No end in sight

It is almost shabbat and the casualties now number 33.  Each morning I awake to the latest body count which thankfully is not nearly as high as the number of terror tunnels that have been uncovered.

We are Israel, the defenders of democracy in the middle of Middle East extremism.  We set up field hospitals for Syrian and Gazan civilians, and our hospitals remain open at all times to the relatives of terrorists who thirst for Jewish blood again once they have recovered.  The world has somehow embraced the internationally recognized Hamas terror group as victims of America's most powerful ally, a brainwashing initiative achieved on a massive scale, perhaps second only to that of the Nazi regime.

The world has turned upside down.  That is the sole, frightening conclusion of current events. Clearly the morals of all who post hateful comments spewing four-letter words on American news sites have been tossed out with lost hope.  People are confused and they have no focus on the age-old fight of good versus evil.  They are angry and their anger meshes well with the murderous cravings of terrorism.

But we are okay.  We are okay because we are doing exactly what we should be doing.  Why do all nations look to tiny Israel?  Because we accomplish the impossible.  We are not defeated and do not become vengeful while we bury our boys.  We keep our eyes on the goal: to remove the evil, murderous presence that has assumed power in the Gaza Strip and to free both Israelis and Palestinians from the clutches of a daily existence under reigning terror.

Our people are exceptionally united at this time.  While airlines have cancelled every flight through Israel, we don't mind; we have no desire to be anywhere else but in this beautiful haven of unity, one that is the envy of the world.  Hard to believe yet understandable, as 1000 unintercepted rockets have miraculously yet tragically taken a single life.  We are undoubtedly a nation blessed living under G-d's watchful eye.  We are feeling the love; miracles can do that.

And so as we enter the peace of shabbat, we do every mitzvah, make every blessing and try to make a difference in the merit of our soldiers' safe return, and in the hope that the world will be set right-side up by the hand of G-d.

Sending love out to all.  Shabbat shalom. <3
